Gemini Wolf will two sets an early set of newer type songs and then a second set, performing their debut Josiah in its entirety. Should be a remarkable night of music!

Gemini Wolf - Album Release Show
Gemini Wolf, Philadelphia based electro-dub-symphonic rock band is releasing their debut LP, 'Josiah'. To celebrate this release the band is having their CD Release party at Art@Sophi at 1241 Carpenter St. in South Philadelphia on Friday May 18.The band has been playing clubs around Philadelphia, New York, Wilmington and Baltimore for the past two years. They have released singles on Nophi records as well as having a song chosen for the Philly CarShare SoundClash Vol. 1.
Gemini Wolf's debut LP is a sonic journey through dozens of music genres. Combining, shoe-gazer-ish dream-pop vocals, acoustic guitars, thunderous drums, Philly-style soul string arrangements, glitchy laptop programming, dubby bass, thunderous drums nine tracks are nestled together into tight dramatic composition. The album has been produced and mixed by Mikronesia (Robots in Disguise), Gary Dann (Dootlebug, New Millionaires), Joe Bowie (Silent Assassins) and Bilwa (Hoopty Heaven and Perpetual Mvmt< >Snd).
The CD Release party will feature an extended set from Gemini Wolf, sets from the mixed-media / free jazz group, Merle Keith and The Hessians feat. Kilroy. Spinning a late night set will be the acclaimed DJ Frosty. Visually, Art@Sophi will curate the gallery with various paintings, lighting and video projections. In the main room with Gemini Wolf will be legendary artists, David Gerbstadt, doing some projection interactive art set to the band's music. Also featured at the show will be a 'House of Josiah' photos series, surveying a surrealistic domestic landscape through photos and artwork from the album, by Gemini Wolf singer/ songwriter, Pandar.

The second performance in an ongoing performance series featuring live music and dance, The Rashomon Effect is an improvisational score based on the storytelling method employed in Akira Kurosawa's 1950 film Rashomôn.
The term "Rashomon effect" refers to the effect of subjectivity on recollection, by which observers of an event are able to produce substantially different but equally plausible accounts of it.
In The Rashomon Effect, eight performers inhabit an improvised score in which sound and movement themes are introduced and revisited by each performer, morphing and expanding as memories do.

The term "Rashomon effect" refers to the effect of subjectivity on recollection, by which observers of an event are able to produce substantially different but equally plausible accounts of it.
In The Rashomon Effect, eight performers inhabit a round-robin score in which each dancer is paired with a musician in an interactive duet. Within this simple framework, sound and movement themes are introduced and explored through each artist's medium, morphing and expanding with each pass around the circle. John Phillips will be recording, manipulating, and projecting video on site.

Philadelphia Laptop Battle
Silk City5th and Spring Garden
Philadelphia, PA
10 PM :: 21+ :: $5
Here's the press release:
On Wednesday 2/25 at 9pm, Seclusiasis Studios is proud to present Philadelphia with its first ever Laptop Battle.
This is going to be a 3 round competition of various Electronic Music using only a laptop. Events like this have been occurring in Chicago, Seattle, NYC, LA, Portland, etc. for over a year, but this will be the first event of this type in Philly. Think of this Competition, as sort of a cross between a DJ Battle and a Battle of the Bands, with lots of Tech Geeky-ness thrown in (haha). The response to this Battle has been overwhelmingly positive, performers as far away as Chicago and London have been interested in coming here to compete, but they missed the sign up. Unlike one artist, Black Market (Wikkid Records, Flatwax Records) who signed up in time and will be flying in from Montreal to shake up the locals!
This event is being backed by some heavyweights in the electronic music scene. Ableton, whose music software "Live" has revolutionized the way electronic musicians can recreate their compositions in the live setting has put their stamp of approval on the night, and will be providing some promotional goodies. Grooves Magzine, which is widely considered the leading magazine for experimental electronic music culture will be on hand to provide the audience and competitors with free magazines. And of course local champion of all things progressive, the City Paper is helping get the word out.Competitors: Alex Welsh, Structure, Black Market, Mikronesia, Zen Diagrams, La Mejor Seleccion, Underscore, Nintari Man, John Murphy, and Bidi.Judges: Sean Portnoy (editor of Grooves Magazine)
Sean O'Neal (Journalist, Label Manager, DJ)
Dev79 (Producer, Promoter, DJ) Host DJ: Rob Mall (tbtmo records)The winner will recieve a prize package containing a gift card from Springboard Media, some cash, and slew of goodies from the event sponsors, local labels, and more.Silk City - 5th & Spring Garden Sts.
